Not Just a Farmer

Just a Farmer Movie

They call me “just a farmer”, a man who works the land,

Sunburnt face and calloused hands, an Akubra hat in hand.

They’ve heard the tractor rumble, the cattle in the yard,

But don't see all the burdens, the battles fought so hard. (continued below)

Not Just a Farmer

They call me “just a farmer”, a man who works the land,

Sunburnt face and calloused hands, an Akubra hat in hand.

They’ve heard the tractor rumble, the cattle in the yard,

But don't see all the burdens, the battles fought so hard.

The dawn comes like a bandit, stealin' precious sleep,

Out before the sun's awake, the frost and dew runs deep.

Checking fences, mending gates, chores that never end,

Hoping for a decent rain, praying for the rain to send.

The drought and cracked dry earth sucks the moisture from the ground,

Wilted crops stand lifeless, dry and frostbite brown.

The cattle are all boney, their bellies start to sag,

Worry lines etch deeper, on this weathered and worn swag.

But don't you think we're whinging, we're made of tougher stuff,

We face the floods, the bushfires, with determination, tough

We mend the broken fences, rebuild what's swept away,

This land's our heart and soul and we’ll fight for it every day.

We sow seeds of abundance, the grain that makes your bread,

The wool that keeps you warm at night, and beanie your head.

The beef that graces tables, the lamb and chook you eat,

We put food on your table, through wind, rain and sleet.

We're weathermen, bookkeepers, our farms get repossessed

A vet, a banker, welder, shearer, puttin' problems to the test.

We raise the kids with values, strong, hardworking and true blue

A love for land and labour runs in our veins right through.

So next time you see a farmer, with dirt beneath his nails,

Remember all the unseen battles, the stories that he trails.

We're not just blokes on tractors, but guardians of the soil,

The backbone of Australia, for the people and land we toil.

So next time you see a farmer make sure that him you thank

And buy Australian produce so he has money in his bank.
