Australian Poetry Slam 2024 (APS ’24) invites you to cheer, snap, hold-up scorecards in this nation-wide celebration of spoken-wordsmiths.

APS ’24 is about unleashing your thoughts; launching mini-revolutions, like a chorus of kingfishers on a mission.

Writers let fly. Alight upon the mic for two minutes. Shout, call out, even softly warble your fresh lit.

Workshop facilitator Rob Waters is the 2023 Australian Poetry Slam Champion. The New South Wales poet won the National Final on 8 October 2023 in a tie with K.J. Hayward. Rob is a Gomeroi man with deep cultural connections to the North West of NSW. He is a proud father and grandfather and now lives with his partner on Darkinjung Country. Rob is a poet, storyteller, cultural educator and spoken word artist and has been performing and sharing Story for over 20 years.

We paused. Took a moment. A world-wide “…Ummm”. Now, the slam storm returns.

In 2023, flex vocal chords with a new voice. Run with new leaders. Turn your moments of “…um” into MomentUm. Write new poetic revolutions. You’ve got two minutes on the mic. Build your MomentUm to crescendo and be heard.

Poetry Slams and wordshops are popping up around the nation. From June to October, 1000 writers will grab their moment in the spotlight leading to one National Final at Sydney Opera House and a prize worth $20,000, including publishing opportunities and gigs from Byron to Bali and beyond.
